I’m going to explain two words that are easy to confuse:
economic and economical.

今回は混乱しやすい２つの単語、「economic(経済の)」と「economical(経済的な)」の説明をしていくわね。

 

Economic is an adjective that means “about economics or industry” or “about money”:

Economicは、経済や産業のこと、あるいはお金に関することを意味する形容詞なの。

 

I hope the economic situation in Europe becomes better.

私はヨーロッパの経済がより良くなることを望みます。

 

I like the new president’s economic policies.

私は新しい大統領の経済政策が好きです。

 

 

 

Economical is an adjective that means “not using much money or resources
(such as fuel, electricity, etc.)”:

Economicalは、お金や資源（燃料、電機など）をあまり使わないようにするという意味の形容詞なの。

 

I’ve heard hybrid cars can be very economical.

ハイブリットカーは非常に経済的になりえると聞きました。

 

I’m trying to be economical by buying more things second-hand.

私はもっとたくさんの中古品を買うことによって経済的になるよう務めています。
