●o。.○o 。☆　年末年始の風物詩、日本の文化を英語で伝えよう！ ☆　。o○.。o●

お正月に私たち日本人が何気なくしている習慣、用意するもの、食事などは、
やはり日本独特のもの。

文化が違うともちろん英語にはない言葉もありますが、
わかりやすく説明をすれば伝えることができます。

年末年始をどう過ごしたのかをレッスンパートナーや
外国人のお友達、同僚に話す機会もあるのでは！！

そこで、今日は何末年始の習慣、文化を英語で説明するための予習をしてみたいと思います☆

日本の「お正月」ならではの言葉はどのように表現できるでしょうか？

■正月：　The New Year

■元旦：　New Year’s Day

■三が日：The first three days of the New Year

■正月飾り：New Year’s decorations

■おせち料理：Special prepared New Year’s dishes

Japanese traditional New Year’s dishes（日本の伝統的な正月料理）と言ってもいいでしょう。

中身も、

sweet black bean(黒豆)、
fish cake(かまぼこ)、
sweet potato and chestnuts(栗きんとん)

などと説明してみましょう☆

■大晦日：New Year’s Eve
前夜祭の意味のEveをつけます。

■除夜の鐘：New Year’s Eve Bells

■忘年会：year-end party

■大掃除：Year end cleaning
アメリカでは大掃除は春にするものだそうで、spring cleaningといいます。

■年賀状：New Year’s Card

■お年玉：New Year's money gift to children

■初詣：The first visit of the year to temple and shrine

■初日の出：The first sunrise of the year/ New Year’s sunrise

■新年の抱負：New Year resolution

それでは上の言葉を使って会話をしてみましょう！！

◎年末年始は何するの？◎
Keith: What’s your plan for The New Year holidays ?
Yuriko : I'll relax at home during the New Year holidays. How about you?
Keith: I am going camping in the mountains to pray for New Year’s sunrise.
Yuriko : Right, you are “yama-boy”!!!

Keith: 年末年始の予定は？
Yuriko: 家でゆっくりする予定だよ。Keithは？
Keith：山でキャンプをして、初日の出を拝む予定なんだ。
Yuriko : そうだっだ！Keithは山ボーイだもんね！

◎来年の目標は？◎
Jared: Have you made a New Year's resolution?
Asami: I have been taking translation lessons since last year and I will study harder.
Jared: That’s nice! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.
Asami: Thanks! What’s yours?
Jared: I will study Japanese more and more!

Jared:　新年の目標は立てた？
Asami:　翻訳の勉強をしているんだけど、今年はもっと頑張って勉強するってこと。
Jared: 　いいね！何か質問があったら、何でも聞いてよ。
Asami:　ありがとう！Jaredは？
Jared:　僕は日本語をもっともっと頑張って勉強すること！！

「今年もよろしく！」と同じような言葉はないので、こんな風に言ってみましょう。

「よい一年になりますように！」
May 2012 finds you happy and successful.
I hope you will have a great year!
I hope it will be a good year for everyone.

やっぱり冠詞は難しい。このブログをKeithにチェックしてもらった時も
何箇所も直されてしまいました。。
I will study English harder in next year!!!
