DAY SEVEN :
WOULD RATHER
DAY SEVEN

Coming to London to show my portfolio has made me think seriously about the next step in my life. I really love New York, but part of me would rather move back to London. I chatted with Brian on SNS about it. As usual, he was supportive.

day 7

Brian: Do you really think you would rather move back to London?

Belle: I don’t know for sure. I love the Big Apple, but this might be a good opportunity for me to become established in London.

Brian: If you get this job, I think it would be a great start to a freelance career.

Belle: Yes, maybe. I’d also rather be closer to my family.

Brian: Actually, I’ve been thinking about changing my job, too. I like being a fireman, but I think I’d rather be a DJ.

Belle: I’m not sure. I love New York, but sometimes I feel like I _________ ___________ (take) a chance on a new career. Anyway, I don’t have the job yet, so I can’t decide.

Katie: I’m selfish. We have so much fun together. I __________________ _____ (have) you here in New York.

Your Turn

Your lesson partner is asking you to do things you don’t want to do! What would you rather do?

“Let’s watch a horror movie!” “I would rather watch...”

Day 7 :
WOULD RATHER

would rather「どちらかというとむしろ~したい」

1:I like dogs rather than cats.

ここから派生してwould rather(どちらかといえばむしろ~したい)を学びましょう。

2:I would rather stay at home.

3:I would rather not go to school today.

■ would rather + A than B

例4:I would rather walk than wait for a bus to go to the station.

5:I would rather leave early in the morning than go to work on time.
