In America, summer is not only for going to the beach or having barbecues.
Did you know that many scary movies come out in summertime?

夏になるとホラー映画をたくさん見かけるようになるってご存知かしら。

When I watch a scary movie, I feel nervous and my body cools down. I start shivering because I’m scared and cold.
After the movie is finished, I go outside and it is so nice to feel the warm, summer air!
ホラー映画を観ると、ゾクゾクして背筋が凍ります。怖くて寒気がして震えがくるわ。
そして映画を観終わると、外に出て夏の素敵な暑さを感じるのです！

My top 10 scary movies recommendations

1. The Silence of the Lambs (USA, 1991 ‧ Thriller/Horror ‧ 2h 18m)

– This movie has a very, very good story, and fantastic actors.
It stars Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. Jodie Foster is an FBI agent investigating some murders.
Many women are being kidnapped and killed. She interviews Anthony Hopkins, who is in jail for murder.
In the past, he was a psychologist as well.
She hopes to learn about how a serial killer thinks, so she can find the killer and stop him.

とってもいいお話で、素敵な役者さんたちの映画です。
主演はジョディ・フォスターとアンソニー・ホプキンスです。ジョディ・フォスターはいくつかの殺人事件を調査するFBIです。

– If you have never seen a movie by Director M. Knight Shyamalan, I highly recommend you watch these movies.
His stories are always very interesting, and there is always a twist どんでん返し at the end of the movie.
Both “The Sixth Sense” and “Signs” are excellent movies, so it’s difficult to only recommend one.
Please try one of these movies, and if you enjoy it, you should definitely watch the other one!

彼のストーリーはいつもとても面白くていつも最後にどんでん返しがあります。
このふたつのどちらも優れた作品なので片方だけをオススメするのは難しいです。
まずはどちらかを観て、気に入って頂けたら絶対にもうひとつも観るべきです！

I have only seen #1 and #2 and they are pretty scary!
If you like movies about ghosts, I recommend this one.
The movie is known for its film style. The first film only cost $15,000 and the director used a home video camera to record the movie. The story is about a family that moves into a new home. Strange things happen while they live there!

– This is another movie that became famous for its low cost ($1.5 million) and very short time for shooting (18 days!).
In this movie, we learn about a killer with a unique method: He captures people and plays a game with them. If they win, they can live. If they lose, they will die.

The ship’s crew must find and kill the alien before it kills them.

– This is such a famous movie, I’m sure you have heard of it.
Originally, it was a book by famous author Stephen King.
The movie stars Jack Nicholson, who is a writer.
He, his wife, and his young son all go to a hotel in winter.
They reserve the whole hotel so he can peacefully write.
However, they find out that they are not alone in the hotel.

原作は著名な作者スティーヴン・キングの本です。
主人公はジャック・ニコルソンが演じる作家です。
妻と息子と三人で冬にとあるホテルへ行きます。
彼らはホテルを貸し切りにし、静かに書くことに専念します。
しかし彼らはホテルにいるのは自分たちだけではないと気付くのです。

9. Crimson Peak (USA, 2015 ‧ Horror/Mystery ‧ 1h 59m)

– Crimson Peak is a wonderful movie by my favorite Director, Guillermo del Toro.
Guillermo del Toro is famous for his beautiful scenes – he uses a lot of , and the costumes are always fantastic.
In this movie, we can really see del Toro’s talent with visuals: the costumes, the buildings, the scenery – everything is gorgeous.
The story is about a young woman who marries an engineer with no money.
She moves to his family home, where she finds ghosts from the past and learns about her husband’s dark secret.
クリムゾン・ピーク
『クリムゾン・ピーク』は大好きなギレルモ・デル・トロ監督の素晴らしい映画です。
ギレルモ・デル・トロの映画はきれいな色使いや素晴らしい衣装を用いて、映像の美しさで有名です。
この映画では、衣装や建物、風景などからデル・トロ監督の才能を見て取ることが出来ます。どれを取っても素晴らしいです。
ストーリーはお金のないエンジニアと結婚した若い女性の話です。
彼女が夫の家族の家に引っ越し、そこで過去からの幽霊を見つけ、夫の暗い秘密について知っていくのです。

10. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (USA, 2007 ‧ Musical/Horror ‧ 1h 57m)

– This is a musical! Yes, that’s right – there is a horror movie that is a musical!
Tim Burton, who is famous for making dark movies, is the Director.
The lead actors are Johnny Depp, who is a barber, and Helena Bonham Carter, who is a meat-pie shop owner in 1840s London.
The story is about a barber who wants to punish the evil people in London, so he kills them.
Helena Bonham Carter then uses the people’s bodies to make meat-pies.
It sounds very scary, but actually, this musical is not very scary to watch.
There is a LOT of blood, however, so if you don’t like blood, I do not recommend this musical!
スウィーニー・トッド
ミュージカル映画です！そうなの、怖いミュージカル映画なの！
暗い映画を制作するので有名なティム・バートンの監督作品です。
主演俳優は理髪師役のジョニー・デップと1840年代のロンドンでミートパイ屋の店主をしているヘレナ・ボナム・カーターです。
ロンドンの邪悪な人々を罰する為に彼らを殺害する理髪師の物語です。
ヘレナ・ボナム・カーターは、彼らの人肉を使ってミートパイを作ります。
めちゃくちゃ怖いように聞こえるけれど、実際にミュージカルを観るとそれほど怖いないの。
でも血がたくさん出るので、血が苦手な方はお勧めしません！

Honorable Mention: Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (USA, 2010 ‧ Horror/Comedy ‧ 1h 29m)

– This movie is not in my top 10 because it is not really a scary movie. Instead, it is a comedy!
A group of college students go camping and meet two rednecks 田舎者 (ちょっと悪口).
Of course, everybody knows that if you go camping in the summer, you will find a killer!
Except, these two men are not killers – they are on vacation!
In this movie, the college students mistakenly think the men are killers, and the men are very confused.
It is a very funny movie, however, there are a few gory scenes, so you shouldn’t watch this movie with children.
タッカーとデイル史上最悪にツイてないヤツら
『タッカーとデイル史上最悪にツイてないヤツら』を特別賞にします。
この映画はそんなに怖くないのでトップ10には入れていません。むしろコメディなんです！
大学生のグループがキャンプに行き、二人の田舎者に出会います。
もちろん、夏にキャンプに行くと殺人犯を見つけることをみんな知っています！
例外で、これらの二人の男性は殺人犯ではありません。彼らは休暇中です！
この映画では、大学生は男性が殺人者であると誤解して、男性は非常に混乱します。
とても面白い映画ですが、流血のシーンが何度も出てくるのでお子さんと一緒には観ないほうがいいわね。
