Idioms(Arthur)

Hello members,
I thought I would provide you with idioms from the English language.
As　many know the English language is full of idioms and they are regularly used
when people speak in English.
やー！みなさん。
僕の考えなんだけど、熟語をみなさんに紹介しようと思うんだ。
英語にはご存知のように、たくさんの熟語があり、それらは
英語を話す人たちには当たり前に使われているんだ。

Each month I will provide you a list of some of the more commonly used idioms.
This month we will look at Food Idioms.
と言うことで、よく使われる熟語のリストを作ろうと思う。
今月は食べ物の熟語をご紹介いたします。

acquire a taste for(something)
〜が好きになる
- to develop a liking for some kind of food,drink or something
example- I acquired a taste for kimichi when I was in Korea.
好きな食べ物、ドリンクを見つけ出すこと。
例えば、「私は韓国でキムチが好きになった」

as hungry as a bear
おなかがペコペコ
- to be very hungry
example- I`m as hungry as a bear.
おなかが減ること。
例えば、「僕、おなかペコペコだよ〜」

as nutty as a fruitcake
風変りな
- silly, crazy
example- Jim is as nutty as a fruitcake.
変わり者。
例えば、「ジムはちょっと変だよね」

bear fruit
成果をもたらす
- to yield or give results
example- I hope my efforts to improve my performance will bear fruit.
結果をもたらすこと。
例えば、「僕の業績を伸ばす為の努力は成果をもたらすだろう」

bit off more than you can chew
背伸びをする
- to try to do or eat more than you can manage
example- I think Jim bit of more than he could chew when he accepted the new project.
自分ができるよりも頑張ること。
例えば、「ジムは新しいプロジェクトが入ると無理をすると思うよ」

compare apples to oranges
比較にならないものを比べる
- to compare two things that are not similar and should not be compared.
example- Comparing American football to soccer is like comparing apples to
oranges.
違った二つのものを比べること。
例えば、「アメフトとサッカーを比べることは、リンゴとオレンジを比べるのと同じだ」

not one`s cup of tea
気に入らない
- something that one does not enjoy to do,or does not do well
example- Listening to rock music is not my cup of tea.
誰かがそうすることを楽しまない、よくできない事。
例えば、「ロックを聴くことは僕の好みではない」

food for thought
思考の糧
- something to think about
example- My mother`s advice was food for thought,
when I decided where to go to university,
考えるべきこと。
例えば、僕はどこかの大学入学を決めた時、母のアドバイスは考えされられた。
