talk aboutの意味は？talk to・talk with・discussとの違いと使い方

talk about は、「〜について話す」「〜のことを話題にする」という意味です。人ではなく、話のテーマ・内容を about の後ろに置きます。

使い分けの中心は、前置詞の後ろに「話題」を置くか「相手」を置くかです。

  決める前にそのアイデアをよく話し合いましょう。

talk aboutは「相談する」にも使える？

深刻な問題について人と話す場面では、日本語の「相談する」に近くなることがあります。

I need to talk to you about something.
あなたに相談したいことがあります。

進路について相談してもいいですか。

ただし talk about だけに「助言を求める」という意味が必ず含まれるわけではありません。助言を求めることを明確にするなら、ask for advice や consult を使えます。

What are you talking about? の意味

What are you talking about? は直訳すると「何について話しているのですか」です。状況によって、単純な質問にも、驚き・否定・困惑にもなります。

何を言っているの？私はそんなこと言っていません。

強い口調では「何言ってるの？」と責める響きになるため、話題を丁寧に確認するなら次のように言えます。
