at length は、主に「詳しく・十分に」と「長時間にわたって・長々と」という2つの意味で使われる英熟語です。

あるテーマを短く触れるだけでなく、内容を掘り下げて詳細に、十分な分量で扱う意味です。

よくある間違い

物の物理的な長さには使わない

「その机は長さ2メートルです」は The desk is two meters in length. です。at lengthは通常、話・説明・議論・文章などの進み方を表します。

動作なら何でも使えるわけではない

「長時間眠った」を slept at length とは通常言いません。slept for a long time を使います。at lengthは speak / discuss / explain / write / examine などと好相性です。

必ずしも「冗長」という批判ではない
