・A day late and a dollar short
(直訳)一日遅れで一ドル不足
This idiom means too little, too late
このイディオムは(目的を達成するまでには時間などが）短すぎる、遅すぎるという意味です。
Example : Although, he passed the final exam, he was a day late and a dollar short
because he did not pass the class.
(例)期末テストはパスしたけれども、彼はそのクラスをパスするには遅すぎた。
・A penny for your thoughts
(直訳)あなたの考えの為のペニー(１セント)
This idiom is used as a way of asking people what they are thinking about.
このイディオムは人にどう思うか尋ねるときに使います。
(Tell me what you’re thinking about.と同じ意味です。)
Example : A penny for you thoughts.
(例)君の考えを教えてよ。
・Money is no Object
(直訳)お金は物ではない。
This idiom means it does not matter how much something costs.
このイディオムは価格にはこだわらないという意味です。
Example : Money is no object when I go on vacation.
僕は休暇に出かけたときは、金に糸目はつけないよ。
・Money talks
(直訳)お金は話す。
This idiom means that money gives one the power to get or do what one wants.
このイディオムは人が何か欲しいものを手に入れたり、何かしたいことをするときに
お金がその力を与えるという意味です(金は物を言う・金は力なり)。
Example : Money talks and when I travel, I go first class.
旅行に行く時にはお金が物を言うわね、私はファーストクラスで行くわ。
・Nest Egg
(直訳)巣・卵
This idiom means the money someone has saved up.
このイディオムは貯蓄してきたお金という意味です。
Example : Over the last few years, I have been able to save quit a little nest egg.
(例)この何年間かで、僕はかなりたくさんの貯金をしているよ。
・Nickel and dime
(直訳)５セントと１０セント
This idiom means to charge many small amounts of money which add up to
large amounts of money.
このイディオムはよくよくは多額になるお金を少しずつ出させるという意味です。
Example : Mobile telephone companies try to nickel and dime their customers.
(例)携帯電話会社は顧客からちょっとずつ(しかし多額の)お金を得ようとしている。
