Hello, Everyone!
As some of you know, I am from New York. So, I especially enjoy reading the Photo Journal series along with you, since I not only get the opportunity to teach you English, but teach you about my hometown as well.

あるメンバーズも知ってるかもしれませんけれども、ニューヨークの出身です。英語を教えるの機会があるし出身について教えるのあるそれでPhoto Journalのシリーズをbのメンバーと一緒の読むが特に大好きです。

In Photo Journal 1 Day 1, Belle writes in her diary that it's springtime in the Big Apple. So, you learned that The Big Apple is New York City's nickname. But where did this nickname come from? Actually, it comes from horse racing! What is the connection between horse racing and apples? Of course, horses can't enjoy the prize money from winning a race, but their owners can give them sweet apples as a treat for their hard work.

Photo Journal 1 Day 1でBelleは日記を書いて、春はザービッグアップルになって来た。それでザービッグアップルはニューヨーク市のニックネームということを勉強しました。ただこのニックネームはどこから来ましたか？実は競馬から来ました！競馬とリンゴはどうな関係があるわけですか？もちろん、競馬の勝つ馬はお金を楽しむことができないのでオーナーからあげた頑張っていたのお礼の美味しいリンゴを楽で食べられます。

In the 1920s, New York was famous for horse racing, and a newspaper sportswriter wrote an article, saying that some horses were in training for the Big Apple (meaning, the New York races). Other writers began to use this nickname, and it became a popular phrase, even when people were not talking about horse racing. I think The Big Apple is a cute nickname, and I'm happy it became popular.

１９２０年代ニューヨークは競馬が有名でした。そして新聞のスポーツライーターは競馬の馬は「The Big Apple」には特訓中というの記事を書きました（そのニックネームという意味はニューヨークの競馬の特訓）。他のライーターはそのニックネームを使って来た、競馬につてない記事でもだんだん人気な文になりました。ザービッグアップルはとても可愛いニックネームだと思いますが人気になった嬉しいです。

Does Tokyo have a nickname? I checked Google, and it said Tokyo is sometimes called The Big Mikan or The Big Persimmon. I find this hard to believe– is it true?

東京はニックネームがありますか？Googleに調べてみましたが時々ザービッグミカンとかザービッグ柿というニックネームがあると書いています。そうですか？ちょっと信じられません。
