Last month I attended my best friend`s wedding in New Zealand. While I had
a great time there nothing could prepare me for the trip back to Japan.
先月、友人の結婚式に出席するため、ニュージーランドに行ってきました。
そこで楽しんでいる間は、日本へ帰る事を全く考えてなかったですよ。
At 6:50a.m. I boarded a plane in ChristChurch bound for Auckland. Upon my
arrival in Auckland, I headed to the International Terminal for my
connecting flight. My flight was supposed leave Auckland at 1:30 bound for
Hong Kong.
午前6時50分、クライストチャーチでオークランド行きの飛行機に乗ったんだ。
オークランド到着後、乗継のため、国際ターミナルに向かった。
フライトは香港行、1時30分出発予定だった。
Imagine my surprise when I notice that my flight was now scheduled to leave
at 10:00 p.m. that night. I asked the ground staff, why was my flight
postponed until 10:00 p.m.. They told me there was a Typhoon in Hong Kong
and the plane to take me Hong Kong was still in Hong Kong.
気づけば、フライトはその晩、22時に変更されていた。その時の僕の驚きが想像できるかい？
空港にいるスタッフに「なぜ、22時まで延期されたんだい？」と質問したろころ
香港に台風が来ていたため、僕の乗る飛行機がまだ香港を出発していなかったんだ。
Since I was tired I decided to take a nap. I woke to discover that my
10:p.m. flight had been canceled.
Once I again I went to the desk to talk with the ground staff.
I was informed that my flight would now depart at7:30 a.m. the next day.
I was told since this was a result of an act of nature,
I would be responsible for my own hotel room.
Needless to say I was quite upset.
So, I found a hotel and took a shuttle bus to the hotel.
疲れていたので、僕は昼寝をすることにしたが、22時出発の飛行機がキャンセルとなり
目が覚めました。僕はもう一回、スタッフデスクに行ったんだ。
僕の、乗る予定の飛行機は今じゃ、翌朝7時30分出発に代わっていたんだ。
結果は天災のため、僕は自分でホテルを探すはめになった。
言うまでもないが、僕は相当イライラしてたが、ホテルを見つけ
そこまでシャトルバスにのった。
The next morning I arrived at airport at 6:15. Once again there was a
delay. My flight left one and a half hours late. Upon arrival in Hong Kong
I learned that I had missed my connecting flight and would once again have
to stay in a hotel. This time however, the airline would pay for my meals
and the hotel room.
Finally, after two nights in hotels, I boarded a flight to Tokyo. My
nightmare had come to an end.
翌朝、6時15分に空港に戻ったが、またもや遅れがでていた。
僕の飛行機は1時間から1時間半の遅れだった。香港に着いてから
乗継を逃したことに気づき、またホテルに泊まることになってしまった。
しかし、今回は当然ながら、航空会社が食費、ホテル代を支払ってくれた。
ホテルで二晩がたち、やっと東京行の飛行機に乗れたんだよ。
旅の最後にこんな悪夢がくるなんて・・・。
