Today I am going to talk about two verbs that are easy to confuse: remember and remind.
今日は混乱しやすい『remenber』と『remind』の二つの動詞について説明したいと思います。
Remember is the opposite of “Forget”:
『Remenber』は『Forget』の対義語になります。
I need to remember to take out the trash tomorrow morning.
明日の朝、ゴミを出すのを覚えておく必要があります。
Please remember to bring your textbook to class.
授業に教科書を持ってくることを覚えておいてください。
Remind means “make someone remember” or “make someone think about”:
『Remind』は誰かに思い出させる、または何かについて考えさせるという意味です。
Please remind Mary to buy some milk.
マリーに牛乳を買うことを思い出さてください。
He reminds me of my brother.
彼は私の兄弟を思い出させる。
Bonus point: Did you know that there are two meanings for the word memory?
ボーナスポイント：皆さん、『Memory』には二つの意味があることをご存知ですか？
Memory can mean a certain thought about the past:
『Memory』は過去についての確実な思考（思い出）を意味します。
I met my childhood friend yesterday — we talked about some great memories.
私は昨日、幼なじみに会いました。 私たちは素敵な思い出について話ました。
Memory can also mean the ability to remember things well:
『Memory』はまた、物事を覚える能力（記憶力）を意味します。
Mary got 100% on the vocabulary quiz — she has a great memory!
マリーは単語テストで100点を取りました。彼女はすごい記憶力を持っています。
Of course, we also use memory when we talk about computers,
but that can be a little complicated, so let’s leave that for later!
