Halloween is widely celebrated in New York City by children and adults alike.

During the day, children in costumes go house to house, ring
doorbells and shout, “Trick or Treat!
日中、コスチュームをした子供たちが家から家へ、ベルを鳴らし

During the night, adults dress up in costume and head out to one (or more) of
the many Halloween parties around town.
夜には大人たちが変装し、町中のハロウィーンパーティに顔を出します。
The biggest party on Halloween night starts with
the annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade in downtown Manhattan.
一番大きなハロウィーンパーティは、
毎年恒例マンハッタンのグリニッチビレッジハロウィンパレイドです。
Anyone who is dressed up in a costume can join in this lively parade.
Life-size puppets, floats blasting music and people
wearing an amazing variety of creative home-made costumes all walk in the parade.

Everyone uses their ingenuity and resourcefulness to come up with costumes
that are humorous, scary, intricate, abstract and sometimes political.
みんな知恵をだして、ユーモラスで、怖い、複雑で、抽象的な、そしてたまに
賢明なコスチュームを考えだすのよ！
Inspiration for costumes can come from absolutely anything – movies, music videos,
animation, current events, common household items.

Overall it is always a very colorful and theatrical event.
It’s always fun to watch the NYC Halloween Parade
and see the unique costumes that people come up with.
