This spring, I took a day trip with my friends down to Toyosu! Toyosu is right next to the ocean, so it only makes sense that the area is world-famous for its delicious, fresh-caught fish!
春になって、お友達と一緒に豊洲まで日帰りで遊びに行ってきたの！
豊洲は海のすぐそばにある街だから、新鮮で美味しいお魚が有名なのも納得なのよね。
Of course many of you probably already know this, but Toyosu Fish Market is one of the largest seafood markets in Japan.
It has both a general wholesale market and an auction market, and many local restaurants purchase their fresh fish there.
Visitors can also watch the famous tuna auctions from the second floor, which makes it a popular sightseeing spot as well!
ご存知の方も多いと思いますが、豊洲市場は、日本最大級の海鮮市場なの。
一般向けの卸売市場と競り市場があり、地元のレストランの多くもここで新鮮なお魚を仕入れているんですって。
また、競りの様子は2階から見学することもできるので、観光スポットとしても人気よね。
It is the largest wholesale fish market in the world, and it even made history by auctioning off the largest caught Bluefin Tuna ever to be recorded! The monster of a fish weighed about 278 kilograms, and was sold for 333.6 million yen (to the owner of Sushi-Zanmai!).
実は豊洲市場は、世界最大の魚の卸売市場としても知られているの。
さらに、これまでに水揚げされた中で最大級のクロマグロが競り落とされたことでも有名なんですって！
その“モンスター級”のマグロは、なんと約278キロ。
そして、あの「すしざんまい」のオーナーによって、3億3360万円で落札されたのよ。
In the mornings, the fish market is teeming with fishermen and people looking for the freshest catches, and I can tell you first hand that I have never been anywhere that smelled fishier! Overall, it was a really interesting experience to witness, and I recommend that people visiting the area drop in to take a look.

そして実際に行ってみて思ったのだけれど……あんなに“お魚の匂いがする場所には、今まで行ったことがなかったわ。
でも、それも含めてとても面白い体験だったの。
豊洲エリアへ行かれる機会があれば、ぜひ一度立ち寄ってみてほしいスポットだわ。
Of course, right next door to the fish market, is Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai. This area is an Edo-inspired market, filled with Koto City shops and eateries. There are many delicious food stands selling traditional Japanese cuisine, and several restaurants with a variety of dishes featuring the freshly caught fish.
もちろん、豊洲市場のすぐお隣にある「豊洲 千客万来」にも行ってきたのよ。
こちらは江戸の街並みをイメージした商業施設で、江東区ならではのお店や屋台がたくさん並んでいるの。
和食を楽しめる食べ歩きグルメのお店も多くて、新鮮なお魚を使ったさまざまなお料理を味わえるレストランも充実しているのよ。
I had an absolute blast walking around and trying out some of the delicious treats and Japanese snacks.
私も食べ歩きをしながら、いろいろなグルメや和風のおやつを楽しんできたのだけれど、本当に大満足だったわ！
I ate a piece of fatty tuna that was so fresh and yummy, and it just melted in my mouth like butter! It is easy to snack while walking around, and they even have a spectacular Japanese sake tasting shop. I was able to try a variety of sake from all over Japan, and it was such a fun way to explore Japanese cuisine.
特に感動したのが、とろけるような大トロ。
とっても新鮮で、まるでバターみたいに口の中で溶けてしまうほど美味しかったのよ。
歩きながら気軽に食べられるお店も多くて、さらに日本酒の試飲ができる素敵なお店まであったの！
日本各地の日本酒を少しずつ飲み比べできて、日本の食文化を楽しむにはぴったりの体験だったわ。
There are also many shops in the area that sell souvenirs and seasonal ingredients. Although I wasn’t able to try it out for myself, there is also a foot bath garden and Japanese onsen in the area, for people looking to relax a little after a hard day of snacking!
周辺には、お土産屋さんや季節の食材を扱うお店もたくさんあって、歩いているだけでも楽しかったの。
今回は残念ながら行けなかったのだけれど、足湯庭園や温泉施設もあるそうなので、食べ歩きでたっぷり楽しんだあとに、のんびり癒やされるのも素敵よね。
I had a really great day in Toyosu, and I definitely recommend it to people looking for something fun to do in the Tokyo area. It was much less crowded and felt much less like a tourist trap than Tsukiji Market, and there was plenty of space to sit and enjoy our seafood haul. Japan’s seafood really is the best!
豊洲では、本当に楽しい一日を過ごすことができたわ。
東京近郊でどこかお出かけしたいな、という方にはぜひおすすめしたいスポットなの。
築地市場に比べると、人混みも少なくて、いわゆる“観光地っぽさ”も控えめだったので、ゆったり過ごせたのも嬉しいポイント。
購入した海鮮を座ってゆっくり楽しめるスペースもあって、とても快適だったわ。
改めて、「日本の海鮮って本当に最高だわ…！」と実感した一日でした。
