A lot of times when animated series from Japan are brought to the USA and redubbed, the dialogue is not well-preserved: neither the translation nor the tone are approached with care. It’s a real shame.

First, I watch an episode with Japanese audio and English subtitles. Then I rewatch the same episode with Japanese audio and Japanese subtitles. That’s it. It’s a super easy and fun way to study. The translation is super good, so I can study Japanese accurately without worry.
まずは「日本語音声＋英語字幕」で1話観るの。
そのあと、同じエピソードを「日本語音声＋日本語字幕」で観直すだけ！
これだけなのよ。
翻訳の質がとても高いので、安心して日本語の表現や言い回しを学ぶことができるわ。
And you can do the same thing! I challenge you! Watch Witch Hat Atelier in English with Japanese subtitles first, and then again in English with English subtitles. You can do it! I believe in you!

I really enjoy the story and animation style. I think even if you are a person who doesn’t enjoy most anime, you can enjoy this one. It is slow-paced, but not boring, and a lot of detail has been into the artwork. Why not give it a try?
