This year, I was able to make traditional Japanese New Year’s food with my circle at school.
We made some very delicious food like traditional soup (ozoni), traditional egg roll cake (datemaki), meat rolls (yahatamaki), and sweet potato and chestnut sweets (kurikinton).
I was really excited to make all of this because I have never made any of these before.
今年、学校のサークルで日本の伝統的な『新年のお料理（おせち）』を作る機会がありました。
伝統のスープ（お雑煮）や伝統の玉子焼き（伊達巻玉子）、肉巻き（八幡巻き）やスイートポテトやクルミのスイーツ（栗きんとん）などのとっても美味しい料理を作ったのよ。
今まで一度も作ったことがないものだったからとってもわくわくしたわ！
My circle split into groups to make all of the food. All groups made traditional soup.
My group also made the traditional egg roll cake.
Making it was very difficult for us because none of us had any experience making it before.
My favorite part was rolling the egg. At first we didn’t think it was going to look very nice, but after we put the cake in the refrigerator and let it sit, it turned out so well.
サークルのメンバーはお料理を作るのにいくつかのグループに分かれたの。
べてのグループでスープは作ったわね。私のグループは玉子焼き（伊達巻玉子）も作ったの。
私たちのグループメンバーの誰も作ったことがなかったからとても難しかったわ。
私は玉子を巻くのが一番楽しかったかな。最初はあんまりうまくいかないな、と思っていたけど冷蔵庫の中で寝かせたら結構良い出来になったの。
We had about 20 people making all of the food. We all wore aprons and got to enjoy making everything together.
In the U.S, we don’t have any special New Year’s food so I really liked making this food in Japan.
Last year, I went to Meiji Jingu for New Year’s but I didn’t do any other traditional things.
This year,
I got to experience another part of Japanese New Year’s.
約20人でこれらの料理を作ったんだけど、みんなでエプロンをつけて一緒に料理を作るのは楽しかったわ。
アメリカでは特別なNew Year’s food ：新年のお料理 ってないから、日本でこんな風にお料理を作れてよかった。
去年は新年に明治神宮に行ったんだけど他の伝統行事は何もしなかったの。
今年は初詣の他の日本の新年の行事も経験出来たわ。
My favorite food out of the four that we make was definitely the sweets.
I love sweet potato, so having a sweet potato and chestnut dessert was really good. I also really liked the traditional soup.
It is very easy to make and also very delicious. It has a really simple taste but I love it a lot. Also, it has mochi in it, which I really love!
私たちが作った4つの料理の中で私が一番好きだったのは断然スイーツね。
スイートポテトが大好きだから栗きんとんとクルミのデザートはとってもおいしかったわ。
それに伝統的なスープ（お雑煮）もおいしかった。作るのがとっても簡単だしすごくおいしいのよ。
本当にシンプルな味なんだけどとても好きになったわ。
それにスープの中には私の大好きなおもちも入ってるしね！
