It’s great to meet you. My name’s Al, and this is my story!

アルと申します。僕のストーリーを話すね。

I came to Japan in 1994, after graduating in English at University
College London.
ロンドンの大学を卒業して、１９９４年に日本にきたんだよ。
I taught English in Fukuoka for five years, where I started learning
Japanese taiko drumming.
５年間福岡で英会話教室で英語を教えてたんだけど、そこで和太鼓を習い始めたんだ。
After a short spell in Los Angeles as a special effects make-up student,
I returned to the UK in 1999 and joined the professional taiko team Mugenkyo,
based in Glasgow, Scotland.
しばらくロサンゼルスで特殊メイクの勉強をしてたんだけど、１９９９年にイギリスに帰って
それからスコットランドのグラスゴーでムゲンキョウっていうプロの太鼓チーム
に入ったんだ。
I toured with Mugenkyo for one year, playing at places like Paris
Disneyworld and the *Brit Awards* – a crazy experience!
パリのディズニーランドやthe Brit Awards など、１年間ツアーをやったんだ、
凄い経験だよ！
In 2001, I decided to return to Japan to continue studying taiko and
teaching English. I have now retired as a taiko drummer because of a shoulder injury,
but still play a South American percussion instrument called the cajon; I combine live
drumming and electronic music to create my own dance music using a program called
Ableton Live.
２００１年、太鼓の勉強と英会話講師を続けるために日本に戻ることにしたんだけど
今では肩を怪我して、太鼓をリタイアしたんだ。
カホンっていう南アメリカのパーカッションを今でも弾いてるんだ。
Ableton Live.って呼ばれるプログラムをつかって、ドラムとエレクトロニック
音楽を組み合わせた自分オリジナルのダンスミュージックを作ってるんだよ。
I also love to write – I’m researching the life of t*he highwayman Dick
Turpin* for a writing project – but I love teaching too.
僕は書き物も好きなんだけど、執筆のプロジェクト用にthe life of the
highwayman Dick Turpin をリサーチしてるんだ。でもやっぱり教える事も好きだな。
Teaching is such a great way to learn about other people… and the world!
指導する事から、いろんな人について学べるんだよ。世界についてもね！
