あけましておめでとうございます。楽しい休憩をしましたか？
I stayed in Japan this year, but when I lived in New York,
I usually went to Times Square for the New Year’s Eve countdown.
Times Square is an area in midtown Manhattan with many huge neon signs and
video screens, as well as stores, restaurants and theaters.
It looks very much like the area around Shibuya station.
今年の正月日本にいましたがニューヨークに住んでいた時普段に
タイムズスクエアのカウントダウンパーティに行っていました。
タイムズスクエアはマンハッタンの間中の所で大きいネオンの看板とビデオ画像が
多いそして店とかレストラン、劇場など。渋谷駅の周り似ています。
On New Year’s Eve, there is a fantastic outdoor countdown party,
with people crowding the streets to watch a large crystal ball drop
slowly to its goal on top of a skyscraper. This is called the “ball drop
” and first began over 100 years ago, in 1907.
At 10 seconds before midnight on December 31st,
the ball starts to drop and everyone starts counting backwards from 10 to 1.
When we hit 1, the ball hits its goal and everyone shouts “Happy New Year!”
and confetti drops from the buildings. It is really beautiful! Recently,
between one and two million people have been coming to
Times Square to watch the ball drop, but since it is also shown on television,
many millions more watch it from their homes.
１２月３１日タイムズスクエアで外ですばらしいカウントダウンパーティは行われます。
道は賑やかに人が集まり、高いビルの上で大きい水晶のボールゆっくり落ちて皆を待って見ます。
このイベントは「ボールドロップ」と言いますが１９０７年で始まりました。
深夜の10秒前でボールが落ち始まり皆は10から１まで逆に数えます。
１に当たり,ボールもゴールに当たり、皆は「Happy New Year!」と騒ぎます！
紙吹雪はビルから落ちます。すごい美しいです。最近１ー２百万人位が
タイムズスクエアのイベントに来ましたがテレビで伝えたもう何百万人は家から見ます。
