A Warm Hello from Hong Kong – Joyce’s Story

Hello, this is Joyce!
I’ve been with b for a long time. Two years ago, I decided to challenge myself and went back to school to study programming. Now I work as an engineer. Even so, I still enjoy teaching English, so I teach online once a week on Saturdays.
こんにちは、Joyce（ジョイス）です！
bには長年お世話になっていますが、2年前、新しいことに挑戦をしたいと思い、プログラミングの学校に通い始めました。
今はエンジニアとして働きながら、英語を教えることも大好きなので、毎週土曜日にオンラインでレッスンを担当しています。

I’d love to meet all of you. I promise that my lessons will be safe, friendly, and fun. They might be a little challenging, but we will keep a good balance!
私のレッスンは、どなたでも気軽にご参加いただけるフレンドリーで楽しいレッスンを心がけています。
ちょっと難しいな…と感じるときも、無理なく進めていきましょう。

I want to share some photos from my recent life. I hope they help you understand my hometown, Hong Kong, a little better.
最近の私の様子についての写真をいくつかご紹介します！
これをきっかけに、私の故郷・香港を少しでも知ってもらえたら嬉しいです。

Joyce’s Hong Kong Life

Monopoly Museum：モノポリーミュージアム

I went to the Monopoly Museum (similar to 人生ゲーム) with my niece on her birthday. She really loved it. She won some toy money from a game and kept saying, “I’m rich now!”
姪っ子の誕生日に、「モノポリーミュージアム（人生ゲームみたいな感じ）」へ行ってきました！
すごく楽しんでくれて、ゲームでおもちゃのお金が当たって、「これでお金持ちになった！」ってずっとはしゃいでいました。

Boat near my home：家のそばを走る船

This is a boat near my home. My parents live on a peninsula in Hong Kong, and one way to go to town is by boat. It’s only a short 5-minute ride, but you can enjoy a fantastic view and see the traditional side of the city.
これは、実家の近くを走っている船です。
両親は香港の半島に住んでいて、街へ出るときには、この船に乗ることもあります。
わずか5分ほどの短い船旅ですが、目の前に広がる景色は本当に素晴らしく、昔ながらの香港の風景も感じられる、特別な時間です。

Hong Kong’s tall buildings：香港の高層ビル

Hong Kong is one of the most crowded cities in the world. Look at these tall apartment buildings! For me, living in an apartment like this is very normal. That’s why having a house feels very special, and I hope I can live in one someday.
香港は、世界でも有数の人口密集都市です。
写真のように、高層の集合住宅がぎっしりと立ち並んでいます。
私にとっては、こうしたアパートでの暮らしが当たり前。
だからこそ、一軒家で暮らすことには特別な憧れがあって、いつか住めたらいいなと思っています。

Nature in Hong Kong：香港の自然

You might be surprised, but Hong Kong actually has a lot of beautiful nature. The nature areas are often mixed with the buildings because the city is so packed. This photo was taken from the top of a small hill behind my parents’ home.
意外かもしれませんが、香港にはこんなにも美しい自然があります。
街がぎゅっと詰まっているからこそ、建物と自然が溶け合ったような風景に出会えるのも、香港ならでは。
この写真は、実家の裏にある小さな丘の上から撮った景色です。

Hong Kong Tram：香港のトラム

Hong Kong’s tram system started in the early 1900s. I like it because it’s a double-decker tram, and it’s one of the cheapest ways to see the city. The view is definitely worth more than the $3.3 (about 66 yen) fare!
香港のトラムは、1900年代初めに運行が始まりました。
2階建てで、街を観光するのにぴったり！
しかも、とてもリーズナブルに香港の景色を楽しめる乗り物のひとつです。
約66円（3.3香港ドル）とは思えないほど、眺めは最高です！

“Siu Mai” and my family：「シュウマイ」と私の家族

Did you know that “Siu Mai” comes from Hong Kong? My grandfather (my father’s father) was a dim sum chef. I never met him, but I wanted to connect with my roots through food.
That’s why I learned how to make Siu Mai myself.
「シュウマイ」が香港発祥だということ、ご存じでしたか？
父方の祖父は、点心職人でした。
私は直接会ったことはありませんが、食を通して自分のルーツとつながりたいと思うようになりました。
そんな想いから、自分でシュウマイを作れるようになりました。
