other thanとexceptの違い
どちらも「〜を除いて」ですが、exceptは集団や全体から例外を一つ取り除く意味がはっきりしています。

この例ではほぼ同じです。ただしother thanは「〜とは別の」という区別にも使えるため、anything other than teaやother than thatなど、exceptにそのまま置き換えにくい形があります。

thanをthenと書かない
thanは比較・区別、thenは「そのとき・それから」です。other thanが正しい綴りです。
besidesと逆にしない
「英語に加えて」と足したいならbesides、「英語を除いて」と外したいならother thanです。
