apply forの語順に注意
apply は「応募する」という動詞です。仕事・ポジション・求人に応募するときは、後ろに for を置きます。
- apply for a job：仕事に応募する
- apply for a position：ポジションに応募する
- apply for an internal vacancy：社内の空きポジションに応募する
一方、応募書類を提出する相手や組織には to を使えます。
I applied to the marketing department for the open position.
その空きポジションについて、マーケティング部門へ応募しました。
初心者はまず、apply for + 欲しい仕事 と覚えると分かりやすいでしょう。
internal position・job posting・vacancyの違い
社内公募に関連してよく使う言葉には、次のような違いがあります。

社内の人が応募できる職・ポジション。 - an internal job posting
社内向けに掲載された求人情報・募集告知。 - an internal vacancy
社内にある空きポジション。イギリス英語でもよく使われる。 - an internal candidate

社内応募者。
position は応募する「職」、posting はそれを知らせる「求人情報」です。そのため、通常は apply for a position と言う方が自然です。

上司に応募の意思を伝える
社内公募では、応募前または応募後に現在の上司へ伝える場合があります。

within the company は「会社の内部で」という意味です。another position within the company なら、転職ではなく同じ会社の別ポジションだと明確に伝えられます。
社内公募と「異動を希望する」の違い
どちらも別部署へ移る可能性がありますが、行動が異なります。
- I applied for an internal position.
募集されている特定のポジションへ応募した。 - I requested a transfer.
会社や上司へ異動を希望した。 - I asked my manager if I could move to another department.
別部署へ移れるか上司に相談した。
社内公募には、求人を見つけて応募書類を出し、選考を受ける流れがあります。一方、request a transfer は、特定の求人へ応募するとは限りません。
応募書類・面接で使える表現
- I updated my résumé for the internal application.
社内応募のため履歴書を更新しました。 - I submitted my application yesterday.

社内求人の掲載そのものは an internal job posting、空きポジションは an internal vacancy、社内応募者は an internal candidate や an internal applicant です。
表現を忘れたら、I applied for another job in my company. と言えば、知っている単語だけでも十分伝えられます。
