platformの発音
platformの発音は、イギリス英語では /ˈplæt.fɔːm/、アメリカ英語では /ˈplæt.fɔːrm/ が目安です。カタカナでは「プラットフォーム」に近いものの、次の点を意識すると通じやすくなります。
- 最初のplatにアクセントを置く
- 「プラット」と母音を増やしすぎず、plætを短くまとめる
- formの母音を日本語の「オ」だけにせず、口をやや縦に開く
- アメリカ英語では最後のrを発音する
リズムはPLAT-formです。後半よりも前半をはっきり強く発音します。
なぜplatformで「ホーム」になるの？名前の感覚
platformの中心イメージは、周囲より少し高く作られた平らな場所・台です。駅のホームは、乗客が安全に立ち、列車へ乗り降りできるように線路脇へ設けられた平らな場所なのでplatformと呼ばれます。
