Happy Holidays!

Christmas and New Year’s are coming up fast, and here in Japan, you can really feel the holiday spirit everywhere you go. Streets sparkle with illuminations, stores are beautifully decorated, and even parks are filled with festive lights. It’s hard not to feel a little excited when you see all the twinkling decorations around the city.
クリスマスとお正月がもうすぐやってきますね。
ここ日本では、街のあちこちでイルミネーションが輝き、お店や公園もきらきらとしたデコレーションでいっぱい。歩いているだけで、自然とホリデー気分が高まってくるような季節です。

In America, however, Christmas looks a little different. While public spaces are decorated, what really stands out are the homes. Many families decorate their houses and front yards with colorful lights, Christmas trees, and festive figures. Some neighborhoods become famous for their amazing displays, and people often take evening drives just to enjoy the scenery and admire everyone’s creativity.
一方で、アメリカのクリスマスの景色は少し違います。
もちろんお店や公共の場所も飾りつけされますが、特に印象的なのは一般の家庭のデコレーションです。多くの人が自宅やお庭にカラフルなライトやクリスマスツリー、さまざまな飾りを並べて、家ごとに個性あふれるクリスマスを演出します。中には、デコレーションがとても有名で、わざわざ車で見に行く人が集まるご近所もあるんですよ。

As much as I love seeing beautiful decorations, I tend to enjoy the holiday season in a quieter way. On cold winter nights, I prefer to stay indoors, wrap myself in a warm blanket, and relax with a cup of rich, sweet hot chocolate. There’s something incredibly comforting about slowing down, staying cozy, and enjoying the peaceful side of the season.
そんなにぎやかな景色を見るのも大好きですが、僕自身はどちらかというと、静かでのんびりとした過ごし方が好きです。寒い冬の夜は、あたたかいブランケットにくるまりながら、甘いホットチョコレートを飲んでゆっくり過ごす——そんな時間に、この季節ならではの幸せを感じます。

きらめく街を散歩する時間も、大切な人と過ごす時間も、そしてお部屋でほっと一息つく時間も、どれも素敵なホリデーの過ごし方ですね。
