In about 2010, I started to noticed that some musicians are producing not only vinyl but cassette tapes.

But then a few months ago, I stumbled upon a music shop in Harajuku called Big Love that was full of cassette tapes and records from new artists exclusively.

2010年頃、ミュージシャンはレコードだけではなくて、カセットテープも作っていました。

しかし、ほんの数か月前、原宿にある「ビッグラブ」という音楽ショップを偶然発見しました。 そこは、もっぱら新しいアーティストのカセットテープやレコードでいっぱいでした。

I felt like I was transported back in time.

I guess this is another way some musicians are using to sell merchandise from their music.

Last week I actually saw that one artist is making 7 inch records.

This I thought was peculiar too! My friend said he likes cassette tapes and bought a cassette player to listen to his new collection.

He said he wants to have a tape made someday.

何十年も前にタイムスリップしたような気持ちになりました。

多分それはミュージシャンが彼らの音楽を売るために使う、ひとつの方法かもしれません。

実は先週、あるアーティストが７インチレコードを作るのを見ました。

この前友達はカセットテープが好きで、テープを聞くためにカセットデッキを買っておいたと言っていました。

いつかテープを生産して貰いたいとも言いました。

Do you think tapes are interesting or stylish?

Why do you think people are interested in buying and making them?

I guess nostalgia is the main reason but another one might be because you cannot skip a song easily with a tape.

Especially with a CD or mp3, with one press of a button you can just skip through a song or quickly move to the very last track of the entire album.

あなたもカセットテープは面白いとかお洒落だと思いますか？

なぜ人々は急にテープを買ったり作ったりするようになりましたか？

私の意見では、なぜかというと「懐かしさ」がメインの理由からと思います。

他の理由はCDやmp３で聞き手は曲をスキップが出来なくて、しかも簡単に最後のトラックまで行けると思うからです。

Maybe now that there are a variety of ways to listen to music, artists now are able to choose media in the way they choose an instrument to play.

The recording quality, interaction with the media, and overall experience changes a lot for today’s musicians and music fans.

多分現在に様々な音楽の聞き方が出てきましたので、今アーティストは曲のために楽器を選ぶように適当な媒体を選べるようになったかもしれません。

媒体によって、録音の質の音色や聞き手の媒体の機械インターアクションや一般的な経験がよく変わるからです。
