I have lived in Japan for almost two years now, but originally I come from a city in northern England called Sheffield.
Sheffield is not a big city, but in the past it was an industrial city with lots of factories making steel.
Stainless steel was invented there.
Now, it is very green with lots of big trees and many parks.
僕は二年程日本に住んでいますが、生まれ故郷は北イングランドのシェフィールドというところです。
シェフィールドはそこまで大きな町ではないけれど、北イングランドで有名な工業都市です。
ステンレス製の物はここで発明されました。
今ではたくさんの公園や森林に囲まれ、緑が溢れています。

A famous national park is also nearby called the Peak District.
When I go home I like to take the bus to the countryside in the Peak District and go walking there.
Lots of people do outdoor climbing there on the rocks, the Peak District and Sheffield are famous worldwide for climbing.
I also like to do a type of indoor climbing called bouldering.
I used to do that often when I lived in Sheffield. Sometimes I do that in Tokyo too.
近くにあるのが有名なピークディストリクト国立公園。
僕は故郷に帰ったときに、バスでピークディストリクト公園に行き、散歩することが好きです。
たくさんの人々がその公園でハイキングやロッククライミングを楽しんでいます。そう、ピークディストリクト公園は世界の中でもクライミングで有名な場所なのです。
僕は、室内で行うボルダリングも好きです。
故郷のシェフィールドに住んでいたときからやっていたし、今は時々東京でもやっています。

When I was a teenager, I used to go to a small cinema in my city once or twice a week.
This cinema has a documentary film festival every year, it’s a very famous festival.
So I used to watch many documentaries there.
When I went to university I studied film and documentaries.
Maybe this cinema inspired me to study film!
僕が10代の頃は故郷にある小さな映画館に週に1，2回行っていました。
その映画館では毎年ドキュメンタリー映画祭を行なっているのですが、この催しはとても有名です。
僕は何度もその場所でドキュメンタリー映画を観ましたし、そのこともあり、大学でドキュメンタリー映画について学びました。
ここの映画館の影響です！

Sheffield is in the county of Yorkshire, the city of York is the capital of this county.
If you visit the north of England, I recommend you visit York too.
It’s a very old city with interesting architecture. It’s a few hours from Sheffield by train.

シェフィールドはヨークシャー州にある町ですが、ヨークという町がヨークシャー州の首都です。
もし北イングランドを訪れることがあれば、ヨークもおすすめです。
この町はとても興味深い建築物のある歴史ある町ですが、シェフィールドから電車で数時間で行くことができます。
